Words of Wisdom

In January 2017 during an in-service workshop, Vassar's professional staff in Student Affairs were asked to identify a wisdom quote or self-care message that they use for inspiration. Here's a list of what people shared:

  • This too shall pass

  • Love for all beings comes first

  • Find strength within yourself; you are your highest power

  • Be the peace you want to see in the world. Shalom

  • “I’m no longer accepting the things I cannot change… I’m changing the things I cannot accept,” -Angela Davis.

  • Treasure the small things in life

  • Hope strengthens, fear kills

  • “How many things by season seasoned are to their right praise and true perfection?”-Shakespeare

  • Not everyone thinks and feels as you do

  • “It’s not easy being green… and I think it’s what I want to be…” - Kermit the Frog

  • Put out positive thoughts to the universe and your day will go well. The universe will give you what you put out to it

  • Healing comes from within

  • If you see how strong you are in one aspect of your life, it can ripple into all other facts of your life

  • Have you hugged yourself today?

  • The you today, yesterday and tomorrow will always be more than enough

  • Experiencing pain also an opportunity for growth, healing and collective action

  • Practice what you preach!

  • Be kind to all- for everyone is fighting their own battles

  • “If it’s important to you, find a way” - Diana Nyad

  • “If you believe you will, if you don’t you won’t” -Eddie Harris

  • I can be changed by what happens to me, but I refused to be reduced by it

  • Biggest risk in life is not risking

  • God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can and the wisdom to know the difference

  • Live and let live

  • Challenge ---> introspection + examination = wisdom
